Spalted Maple Cookie Coffee Table

This spalted maple cookie was a unique find. My sawyer, Kerm Minick, has hundreds of slabs, many of them highly figured and very unique. Ultimately, after flattening, the slab was too fragile to serve as a tabletop itself so it was decided to float a glass tabletop over the slab giving it a museum aesthetic, protecting the slab while still allowing people to touch it. The base was designed by Ed Parrish and Vaughn Washburn to give the impression of branches growing up around the slab and supporting it.
